Christian Responsibility and Citizenship

The Department of Christian Responsibility and Citizenship assists the bishops in promoting Catholic social action. It promotes marriage and family life, offers support for vulnerable and marginalised people and works to uphold the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. Areas of work include: Safeguarding, healthcare, marriage and family, mental health, pastoral support of travellers, prison ministry, internships and bioethics. The Chair of the department is Archbishop Peter Smith of Southwark.
